The 2016 Maidenhead Beer & Cider Festival was held on: Thu 28th - Sat 30th July at the same "ALL WEATHER" venue (Desborough College). This year we have twice the indoor area than last year with 130 real ales & 42 real Ciders & Perries on offer. Drinks were served in 2 distinctive glasses: an over sized pint glass marked one third (small), two thirds (medium) and one pint (large) - NO HALVES, as well as a smaller tulip glass, sponsored by Matt Clark's two pubs The Grenfell Arms, Maidenhead & The Stag & Hounds, Farnham Common, measuring one third and two thirds.
So, no half pints.... why I hear you say! Because we want to reduce the queuing time at the bar, and, more importantly, give punters a better opportunity to experience a wider range of beer. We will also be introducing a voucher system... no cash at the bar. Each voucher will be exchanged for a third of a pint... simple. Vouchers will be purchased at the entrance, where you also pay the very modest entrance charge, as well as glass hire (hopefully, you will decide to take the glass home as a souvenir of your visit!). The entrance charge of £3, £2 for holders of the Borough's Advantage Card or £1 for card carrying CAMRA members, helps offset the cost of entertainment put on throughout the festival.
One further improvement is that all ales, ciders & perries will be priced at the same level, so no need for change or bar staff to perform mathematical leapfrogs. Any unused vouchers will be refunded on leaving the festival or you can donate them to the Rainbow Trust Children's Charity, once again our festival's chosen charity for 2016, caring for families who have a child with a life threatening or terminal illness.
The festival was officially opened by Borough Town Crier, Chris Brown, in his inimitable style, including his Festival Proclamation at 12.30 pm on Thursday.
